TOCA Names 2005 Environmental Communicator of the Year
Jeff Gullikson of Spokane Country Club was named the 2005 TOCA Environmental Communicator of the Year, the association's seventh recipient. The award, given annually, recognizes outstanding efforts in communicating the benefits of environmental stewardship to a particular audience within the turf and ornamental industry. As a founding father of the "First Green of Washington" program, a turfgrass management program for high school students in the state of Washington, Gullikson has seen the program grow through 70 high schools. He has hosted teachers from the entire state and shows how a golf course can be used as an education tool and living laboratory for students.
Gullikson received a $500 stipend. Previous winners of the award include Mark Welterlen, Grounds Maintenance Magazine; Bill Love, W.R. Love Golf Architecture; Tim Doppel, Atwood LawnCare, Inc.; Doug Fender, Turf Producers International; Allen James, RISE; and Ron Dodson, Audubon International.
