Don’t worry. I’m not going to ponder what new year’s resolutions will be broken this year, or wax poetic about looking at the new year with fresh eyes while forgetting about the difficulties of the past year. Nope. In this TOCA column, I’m going to talk about the theme of the new year for TOCA in my estimation, which quite simply is, new everything!
As you may know, several TOCA committees are working on a brand-spanking new strategic plan for the next ten years, which I’m extremely excited about. In addition, we have new initiatives happening that will enhance the TOCA annual event this year in Tucson, Arizona.
For example, we have a new format and several nifty new programs. For the first time, at the insistence of many TOCA members, we are going to focus more on professional development with fewer tours. There will now be two issue-specific sessions during the annual meeting on the topic of water as well. Also, we’re going to breakout into roundtable discussions after a panel discussion on new media, another new occurrence. Best of all, at the annual meeting in Tucson, you will be able to learn new things, make new connections and see a beautiful new location in the Sonoran Desert.
All of this newness charges me up because, as anyone who knows me will attest, I just love new stuff!
So now it’s your turn to show me something new. I want to challenge each and every one of you to bring in one new TOCA member in 2010. It could be a friend in the industry, colleague, boss, client, your agency contact, writer, designer, photographer—anyone that you think would benefit from a TOCA membership. I look forward to seeing you all in Tucson this year and finding out what’s new with you.
