Other actions announced at the business meeting included:
  • TOCA's membership is 213, a net of 63 new members in the past two years. Kudos to Angela Jamison and her committee members who, along with other members, met its goal of a net of 50 new members in two years. An outstanding accomplishment as TOCA continues to grow in prestige throughout the Green Industry.
  • TOCA finished with a strong balance sheet for the 16th straight year. The organization continues to be fiscally strong, with a healthy reserve for emergency purposes.
  • The TOCA writing, photography and design contests had more than 360 entries this year. The board is currently looking at additional categories, especially for marketing categories involving agencies and Green Industry companies. A committee led by Debbie Clayton will report to the board this summer and make a recommendation to be acted on at the fall board meeting in Orlando.
  • The Green Industry Expo (GIE) breakfast reception is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 4, in Orlando.
  • The GCSAA Breakfast reception at the Golf Industry Show (GIS) will be Friday, Feb. 10 in New Orleans.
  • The 17th annual TOCA meeting will be held May 2-4 at the Embassy Suites Hotel Napa Valley, Napa, CA. This will be the first mid-week meeting of the association in its history. The decision was made to move to a mid-week meeting last year after a survey of members indicated overwhelming support for the move. The board meeting will be Tuesday, May 2. The general meeting will be May 3 and 4, with the banquet ending the meeting on Thursday night. Members wishing to invite spouses and other family members for the weekend will be able to get preferred rates at the hotel.
  • The 18th annual meeting will likely be in Savannah, GA or Austin, TX.
  • The board agreed to continue its contribution to Project EverGreen, the national alliance of end-user associations, companies and Green Industry suppliers formed to educate and inform consumers about the benefits of well-maintained green spaces. TOCA publications and agencies donated $250,000 of space and pro bono services to Project EverGreen in 2004 and similar efforts are planned for 2005.
  • Members Larry Kiefer and Ed Hiscock will work on a stylebook for TOCA members to be used as a guide regarding punctuation, word usage, etc. The goal is to have this stylebook on-line and ready by the end of 2005.
  • For the first time, TOCA will have a printed directory, courtesy of New Holland. The directory should be ready sometime in June for members. It will be sent to all members in a three-ring binder and updated each year. It will contain the association's membership, Bylaws and constitution as well as other important information about the association.
Member magazines will be asked to provide a synopsis of their editorial philosophies and their guidelines for working with freelancers and agencies in article placement. This will be executed by staff and be password-protected on the website. This is a member benefit and only members will be allowed access to these synopses.
