Highlights of the professional development workshops on Saturday and Sunday, included:
  • Brad Federman of Performance Connections International discussing stress in the workplace and tools for "igniting purpose, passion and accountability in the workplace," and
  • Dave Darnell, chief photographer of the Memphis Commercial Appeal, the city's award-winning daily newspaper, discussing new digital photography techniques and explaining how the newspaper catalogs digital photos.
  • Saturday night featured a feast of unparalleled proportions as TOCA members were treated to a rib buffet extravaganza at the famous Rendezvous restaurant. The reception and dinner was brought to its members by Environmental Turf and Syngenta. The event was a great chance for the more than 25 members attending their first meeting to get to know veteran TOCA members and learn more about each other.
  • Sunday morning found members learning about the importance of branding from experts Roger Mercier of Street Smart Strategic Planning and Ross Harvey, director of strategic services for AdFarm Communications. The three-hour workshop focused on insights to evaluate brand equity, brand positioning, evaluation of strategic options and other areas of branding and brand management.
Executive Director, Den Gardner, says goodbye to outgoing president, David Cassidy.

The afternoon program began with remarks from David Cassidy, outgoing board president. "TOCA is a very special group," he reminded members, "and even though we've grown a lot in my time with the organization, let's not lose site of the closeness and the bonds we have. This is the only meeting where we put aside our competitiveness and are only interested in working toward being better communicators for this industry. We never want to forget that."

The business meeting followed, where the election of officers was the first piece of business. The group elected to lead TOCA in the next year included: Bill Klutho, president; Margaret McLean, vice president; Debbie Clayton, secretary/treasurer; and the following directors: Felicia Gillham, Ed Hiscock, Cindy Ratcliff, Jason Schmaderer, Bob West, Jerry Roche, Jared Bodnar, Roger Stanley, Troy Blewett and Ron Hall. David Cassidy moves into the position of past president. Pat Jones currently serves as past president and will leave the board after many years of service.
