New Year.
New Everything!

By Jared Bodnar, TOCA President

Don’t worry. I’m not going to ponder what new year’s resolutions will be broken this year, or wax poetic about looking at the new year with fresh eyes while forgetting about the difficulties of the past year. Nope. In this TOCA column, I’m going to talk about the theme of the new year for TOCA in my estimation, which quite simply is, new everything!

As you may know, several TOCA committees are working on a brand-spanking new strategic plan for the next ten years, which I’m extremely excited about. In addition, we have new initiatives happening that will enhance the TOCA annual event this year in Tucson, Arizona.

“Desert Discoveries” Await TOCA Members in Tucson
By Den Gardner, Executive Director

TOCA’s 21st annual meeting is set for May 5-6 at the Tucson El Conquistador Golf & Tennis Resort. “Desert Discoveries” is this year’s theme and you can uncover all this TOCA meeting has to offer by being part of this year’s educational and networking gathering.

Exciting educational sessions will include:
Bo Sacks (or Bob Sacks), a media “futurist,” who will enthrall audiences on the future of media “at the digital edge,” on Thursday morning. Sacks’ firm – Precision Media Group – does private consulting and publishes a daily e-newsletter: “Heard on the Web: Media Intelligence.” He says distribution of news in the next few years will be staggering. He believes what used to take 10 technologic years now takes less than five. He’s “bullish” on the publishing industry and tells audiences everywhere – from the American Society of Business Publication Editors to The Digital Publishing and Advertising Conference AND TOCA IN MAY – that it’s all about information power! You won’t want to miss this special presentation.

TOCA Scholarship Program
Perhaps you know of some deserving student currently pursuing a career in Green Industry communications. A niece or nephew? The kid down the block who used to mow your lawn but now studies marketing and landscape architecture at the University of Minnesota? Maybe it’s your intern, the one answering your phone as you read this very sentence. How about nominating him or her for a TOCA scholarship?
