Change is in the Air
By Debbie Clayton
Big changes are brewing with the annual TOCA awards contest, starting with the name. Previously called the TOCA Writing, Design and Photo Awards Contest, the annual competition has been redubbed the TOCA Communications Contest.
The contest is now divided into two groups: Marketing and Publishing. Within those groups, the Publishing categories are focused more on commercial magazines and the Marketing categories are geared toward companies and agencies. Each group covers writing, design and photography/videography.
"The board adopted the changes to provide more opportunities and categories relevant to all members," said Den Gardner, TOCA executive director. "It also made sense to redefine some of the categories, since members were often confused about where to place certain entries."
New categories in the Marketing and Publishing group include:
- Writing for a Special Event (product introduction event, celebration, etc.)
- Writing for Company Media Kit
- Writing for Point of Purchase Materials
- Speechwriting (or other persuasive piece)
- Overall Media Kit Design
- Design of Point of Purchase Materials.
In the Publishing group, new categories include:
- Writing for Magazine Media Kit
- Writing for Special Projects (special one-time publications, annual reports, etc.)
Plan now to enter the 2006 competition! Entries must have been completed within the calendar year 2005. Submissions are due March 1, 2006.
